At the price, this is a pretty impressive pussycat that shows plenty of pinot noir pizazz. It's a plush number that shows strawberries, blackberries and spiced plums on the nose, with just a whiff of dried roses. The palate is medium-bodied and surprisingly rich, with a nice bright core of red berries, a lick of earthy savouriness, gentle tannins, and a dry, juicy finish. It’s going to go down like a treat and at less than 18 bucks value plus is an understatement!
THE VINEYARD The Domaine du Treille and Domaine de Martinolles vineyards are located in the foothills of the Pyrenees near the famed castle town of Carcassonne. The low yielding vineyards are over fifteen years of age and benefit from the high elevation and cooling evening breezes.
WINEMAKING Totally de-stemmed before a long, cool maceration. Maturation is primarily in stainless steel with roughly one third undergoes carbonic maceration aiding aromatics and fruit expression. A further third receives six month maturation in French oak barrels for greater complexity.
