"Clear, vivid crimson hue; pure, light, bright red berry aromas, then a bright and clear palate, again with red cherry and strawberry fruit. Gold medal Sydney Wine Show '10. Screwcap. 13.5% alc. Rating 94 Drink 2015 $27 Date Tasted Dec 09" - James Halliday.
Vintage Conditions: The Yarra Valley received good rain events during spring and summer. Cool and mild growing conditions throughout summer provided slower ripening patterns and increased fruit complexity. A dryer autumn allowed fruit to be harvested with minimal interruption to harvest proceedings.
Vinification & Maturation: The grapes were hand harvested and delivered to the winery in very small parcels. The fruit was then gently destemmed and a period of cold maceration took place to extract colour and flavour. Wild fermentation ensued and the free run wine was then drained off into a balanced mix of new and old French oak barrels. The wine then went through natural malolactic fermentation in barrel and held on lees to build palate weight and richness.
Colour: Garnet red with hints of ruby.
Aroma: Lifted, pristine red cherry and delicate perfumed violets. Background nuances of subtle oak spice and forest floor.
Palate: An elegant medium bodied wine with layers of red cherry and raspberry fruit, building in complexity for a delicate, textured Pinot with a purity of fruit balancing the seamless tannins to finish with effortless length.
