Beautifully crimson and cherry red in colour. Hints of complex spices and cherries upon the nose. Great depth of flavour and fine tannins upon the palate that will build for years to come. Perfect with rich cheeses and grilled red meats.
Awards and Accolades
96 Points, James Halliday - The Wine Companion "Crafted across eight separate wild ferments, 30% of which contained whole bunches, this textural, energetic and sublimely elegant pinot noir was facilitated by minimal extraction. All tangy red fruit and baking spice, detailed tannins faintly grip the mouth and provide focus for the ethereal finish. A floating world in a glass."
94 Points, Campbell Mattinson - The Wine Front "It’s from a single vineyard at Gruyere in the Yarra Valley; indeed from the higher reaches of that vineyard. This is the ‘best barrel’ selection and comes, I’m happy to say, without any mention of the word “reserve” or some such. It just is what it is. It’s a beautiful wine. It sits ever so comfortably within its own skin. It’s highly perfumed, foresty, berried, smoky and spicy but not excessively or overtly so, and extends with juicy confidence out through the finish. At every step you get the feeling that it’s not trying too hard; it has things covered. Drinking it, you feel safe in its hands, and want to stay until the final drop has disappeared. Bravo.."
From the Winery
Higher than average winter rains in 2014 set the tone for a benchmark Yarra Valley vintage in 2015. The defining feature was the mild and dry spring, allowing for excellent conditions for flowering and fruit set. The balanced crop was then allowed to ripen under optimum summer conditions, again mild and dry, but with rain at the right times. In fact the only significant rain was 55mm on Friday February 13th, of course. More than enough to freshen the canopy and settle the dust on our free-draining slopes. Grapes were handpicked without haste, when the fruit flavours were vibrant and expressive and the acids and sugars in balance. Above all the wines show great purity, tension and charm.
Brilliant, enticing cherry red with a lovely crimson hue. The nose speaks of place, under the shadow of the Warramatte Range, complex, cherry and spice it is both detailed and abundant. The southern aspect of site and the extremely low crop has ensured a concentrated and precise wine with powerful pure fruit, though it is subtle and fine. The depth of flavour and fine tannins of this Estate pinot noir guarantees that this will be a wine that continues to build with up to 10 years of careful cellaring.
Pinot noir is classically matched with duck and pork dishes, as they have the depth of flavour and texture that works so well with the fine tannins of the variety.
