Red Hill Estate Pinot Noir 2008 |
| |
|
|
COLOUR: A brilliant bright garnet red.
BOUQUET: Delicate perfume lift, with complex red berry spectrum, sweet spice and floral notes.
PALATE: A long fine palate with a strong juicy core of cherry, raspberry and a touch of blueberry supported by fine chewy tannins, elegant level of spice and subtle oak.
This wine is a sub-regional blend of fruit from Tuerong, Merricks North, Red Hill and Main Ridge. The blend of the sub regional character results in a wine of depth and complexity.
The 2008 vintage was characterized by favorable growing condition, an early start and above average yields. A mild February enhanced aromatic characters and a hot week in March increased sugar levels but did not seem to be deleterious to primary fruit flavours. These conditions resulted in opulent wines with distinctive aromatics.
Fruit is destemmed and undergoes a cold maceration for 4 days. Primary fermentation in stainless fermenters including daily careful cap management. Malolactic fermentation and 12 month maturation occurs in French oak barriques.
Pinot Noir has been one of the Mornington Peninsula’s shining stars for some time now and the wines just seem to get better and better. They are the perfect illustration of wines that can be wonderfully textured and complex without having to be huge, oaky and tannic.
