This is a Pinot that deserves to be on your radar, especially given the price. With all the magic Yarra Valley Pinot Noir is renowned for; raspberry, tree bark, sour cherry, sap, cedar and toasted spice with a hint of plum. Supple tannin, vibrant acidity, good depth of flavour. True Pinosity, with stunningly excellent architecture.
Award and Accolades
VIC100 - Top 100 Wines 2015
95 Points - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion "Clones MV6, 114, 115 and D5V12; destemmed, 5-day wild yeast fermentation, plus 7 days maceration, matured in French oak. Good colour and a particularly expressive bouquet is followed by an impressively articulated palate; spiced plum aromas and flavours are in perfect sync with the restrained, but evident, oak and finely honed tannins."
93 Points - Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front "This is the standard or estate or “Yarra Valley” version; it’s not the Reserve. Quality-wise though you’d hardly know it. This is very good. It has an easy-going complexity; not an easy thing to do. It’s all forest and undergrowth and yet the core is satiny cherry-plum. It gets the mix, the balance, the structure right. Immaculately so. Smoky oak seals the deal."
From the Winery
Made with the same approach as the Reserve wine, this wine is produced from a different selection of fruit parcels and barrel combinations.
All the 2015 wines are highly perfumed, and this is no exception. It displays lifted raspberry aromas, with a hint of earthiness and subtle oak. The flavours combine bright fruit with fine tannins, the elegance and finesse reflecting the excellent season.
Vine Age & Features: The fruit was picked from various blocks with vines aged between 15 and 28 years old, grown on high north facing slopes to maximize sunshine hours. Northerly winds from Long Gully provide good air flow and favourable micro-climates across the Estate.
Vintage Notes: 2015 vintage was an excellent vintage, mild conditions and cool nights persisted from veraison to harvest. Fruit was hand-picked in excellent condition, with high colour intensity and flavour expression.
