Thompson Estate Locum Margaret River Pinot Noir 2007 |

What a ripper! Made by the Margaret River specialist Bob Cartwright this wine is far more developed than I thought it could be at this price! Classic Pinot Noir in colour; a light red/plum. Aromas of full and developed cherry fruit, subtle enticing spice with a gorgeous hint of vanillin oak. The yummy soft palate reveals juicy red fruits and spice, balanced by bright natural acidity. The wine is medium bodied, not to light but really , just spot on and finishes refreshingly dry.
Knock yourself out and trip down to get some Chinese Peking Duck and noodles or a rich tomato sauce based pasta Or French with some Charcuterie.
2007 was a good year all round with great flavour intensity evident in both reds and whites. There was good ripening seen throughout the entire vineyard.
Fruit was hand picked at 13º baumé, then de-stemmed. Fermentation took place in open vats, with regular hand plunging to encourage maximum colour extraction. The wine was later transferred to French oak barrels that were 2-3 year old and matured for 9 months. The wine was released after a year in bottle.
