Two Paddocks Picnic Pinot Noir 2016

Two Paddocks Picnic Pinot Noir.gif

Owned by actor Sam Neill, the Two Paddocks 'Picnic' is made for earlier drinking, and shows lovely aromas of ripe strawberries, fleshy plums and cherries on the nose, with hints of licorice and toast.

Semi translucent bright dark red colour with light brick red hue. Very perfumed nose displaying lifted notes of ripe dark cherry and dark plum followed by some anise and toasty oak. Light to medium weight palate showing good richness and a soft supple mouthfeel with flavours of ripe dark cherries and dark plum followed by some toasty oak and spice. Velvet smooth tannins. Good power wave with medium to long ripe dark cherry and spicy oak aftertaste. Surprisingly a lot to offer here!

Past Accolades and Awards:

2015 Vintage: ☆☆☆☆ - Goeff Kelly Wine Reviews
"Pinot noir ruby, below midway in depth. Bouquet is intriguing, floral with buddleia and cream / orange roses, and a suggestion of spicy / smoky complexity. Palate is clean, ripe, attractively balanced to oak and much more concentrated and juicy than the early days of the Picnic label – in short dinkum pinot noir. Except it might not be bone dry, though. Cellar 3 – 8 years."

Cameron Douglas, MS
"Fresh, vibrant, lots of red florals and very fruity aroma; just noticeable softer oak layer, a hint of spice and vanilla and a calm inviting bouquet overall. On the palate – dry, fresh, fruity, easy tannins and crisp youthful acidity; a touch of palate tension and poise adds to the length and enjoyment of this wine."

From the Winery:

The Two Paddocks 2016 harvest began on the 5th of April 2016. Overall very clean and balanced fruit was achieved from ripening under extended settled warm autumn conditions. After a cool start to the growing season with 18 frost events in 6 weeks, the heat really only arrived after flowering in late December. Rainfall for the entire 8-month growing season of Sept-Apr was low with only 160mm received in total. February was the start of the 'big finish', which saw an average temp of 19C for the month. This flowed into March, April and May, which were all warm, settled and dry. Vintage was extraordinarily compact meaning that all harvesting was over by the 26th of April. *All Two Paddocks fruit is hand picked by our own crew.

Hand harvested, 85% de-stemmed and given 5-7 days pre-fermentation cold maceration. After an indigenous ferment the wine is given another 5-7 days post ferment time on skins. Wine is then transferred to 1-4 year old French medium toast barriques for a10 month maturation, before racking and bottling.
