All Cullen wines are grown on a certified biodynamic, carbon neutral and naturally powered estate. The wines have no added yeast, acid or malolactic culture and are a natural expression of the Margaret River Region, the home of some of Australias’ most majestic wines.
This exemplary wine delivers on many levels. The nose has amazing clarity and complexity with a combination of cassis, chocolate, aniseed and ironstone aromas.
The palate texture matches the nose of this wonderful wine and is plush, silky and velvety. Plum and cherry flavours abound and are complimented by fine elegant tannins with a long finish. This wine is well balanced which ever way you look at it.
Winemakers Notes: While the superb Cabernet Sauvignon produced in 2011 is the predominant variety in this Diana Madeline, the quality and complexity of this wine has been enhanced by the addition of carefully selected amounts of Merlot, Malbec, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The fruit was picked at Baumés ranging from 12.2° and 13.1° and the wine benefited from lengthy maturation in high quality French oak.
Winegrowing began on the Cullen property in Margaret River over 40 years ago. Studies in the early 1960's showed that Margaret River had some very special qualities. The climate was particularly suited to growing Bordelais varieties and in particular Cabernet Sauvignon. Committed to biodynamic viticulture, Cullen Wines has evolved into an iconic winery focused on quality, integrity and sustainability at all levels of the business.
"This release is an Australian classic in the making. Cabernet Sauvignon, Margaret River, the Cullen landscape: all are written in a clear, deliberate, careful script here. Interestingly for a cabernet sauvignon it’s as much or more of a water-colour style than it is an oil painting. Bay leaves, pencils, mulberries, boysenberry and subdued blackcurrant. There’s enough there, it’s right before your eyes, but it’s not shouting at you, just stop and listen and it’s all there to take in. Herbal notes, fraying, crunch them between your fingers and they disintegrate. Tannin comes with the taut, heavy, foreboding strum of a double bass, incalzando. It’s a wine of presence, and yet it’s neither large nor loud; it makes complete sense, even when it doesn’t. 96 points" Gary Walsh The Wine Front
