GSM? Great - Shiraz - Meaty, Not really, but a definitive description of this monster, smooth svelte and seductive..... Brick red in colour with flecks of ruby, the nose is rich and heady with musk, spice, tempered oak and a touch of incense. The texture is silky and strikes a good balance between ripe plum, woodsmoke and earthy hints. Silky tannins and nicely integrated acidity provide a complex finish. Can be enjoyed right away, but will reward 10-12 years in the cellar.
Awards and Accolades
SILVER Decanter Asian Wine Awards 2017, Hong Kong
90 Points - Lisa Perotti-Brown, Wine Advocate "Pale to medium garnet-purple colored, the 2015 Killerman's Run Grenache Shiraz Mataro is redolent of kirsch, baked raspberries and Chinese five spice with hints of white pepper and dusty earth. Medium to full-bodied with plush tannins and a generous amount of spicy red berry preserves flavors, it has a long peppery finish."
2013 Vintage: GOLD - Decanter World Wine Award 2015
2013 Vintage: 95 Points - Campbell Mattinson, The Australian Wine Companion "Worth championing. Effortless, balanced, bright-fruited and spice-laden. Cherries, aniseed, twigs, raspberries and cloves. Just enough firmness. Beautiful wine at a beautiful price."
From the Winery
The reclusive Alan Webster lived alone in the years after the second world war in the scrub land behind the Kilikanoon cellar door, west of the hamlet of Penwortham. Trapping rabbits, growing his own fruits and vegetables and making his own wines in a galvanised lean to, he was given the nickname 'Killerman' by Mort Mitchell and his friends when they were growing up, after Alan's bush survival skills of 'kill em and eat em', thus the legend of Killerman was born.
Made in a true Rhone Valley style, all of the components were vinified and matured individually in a range of seasoned French oak hogsheads for 16 months before final assemblage and bottling unfined and unfiltered to further complement the wines appeal.
