GOLD & 96 POINTS - Royal Melbourne Wine Awards
2013 Vintage: 94 Points - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion "Bright crimson-purple; a most attractive, vibrant and juicy blend, with a shower of red fruits and sundry spices; it is supple and medium-bodied, with particularly good length and balance. Ready now, but will hold."
From the Winery
The site’s history stretches back to 1836, when the explorer Major Thomas Mitchell crossed the river here on his 900 kilometre journey from Sydney to Melbourne. The intended riverside town was to have been called Mitchellstown. Ross Shelmerdine called his fledgling winery Mitchelton, a derivation of Mitchellstown and the vineyard’s first sod was turned in 1969.
The blend takes its name from the 'Crescent' shaped sandbar which is home to Mitchelton Estate's oldest shiraz vines.
