Murray Street Vineyards Black Label Mataro 2015

Mataro is unsurprisingly suited to the Barossa, thriving in drier conditions and in nutrient poor soil in a way that probably makes all the other grapes a bit jealous. It’s used in blends from across the area, but here Murray Street has let the grape speak for itself, and the result is fantastic.

Deep purple/red in colour the nose is awash with ripe black fruits, liquorice and a meatiness of fresh smallgoods. The palate is rich and dense with a hint of Moroccan spices (think Ras el Hanout) and a superb lingering finish. Drink it now, drink it later, it's up to you, but just drink it!

Accolades and Awards

Past Vintages

2014: SILVER - Hong Kong International Wine & Spirit Competition

2012: 92 Points - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion
"Bright crimson; this is the magic of this vineyard: instead of a bumpy, rustic ride, the red fruits of the fresh, light to medium-bodied palate run in a supple flow alongside fine, almost silky, tannin."

2010: SILVER - San Francisco International Wine Competition

From the Winery

If ever a variety was destined to be grown in the Barossa, it is Mataro, thriving on warm dry growing conditions with the ability to handle soils with low nutrient levels. It has always been an important part of our blends, but we have taken the opportunity to showcase it on its own.
