Touriga Nacional is the primary grape used to make Port, and you see some of the same dark fruit characters here along with layers of mixed spices. It's medium-to-full bodied, really plump and juicy and just jam packed with black fruit flavours. Nice soft finish, beautiful balance. This wine is a brand new addition to his range and without doubt one of his most unique. Pannell firmly believes that the Portugese grape of Touriga Nacional has a big future in McLaren Vale. His blend of Touriga and Tempranillo has become one of the country's most successful alternative variety wines, and this Touriga comes from the same fruit as that Trophy winning blend.

Very versatile, but try a charcuterie board with mixed meats and cheeses, grilled red meats, or even just a BBQ. Quite simply, Pannell is undoubtedly one of Australia's finest and most imaginative winemakers, constantly challenging the status quo with creative, unique and unbelievably high quality wines.

If you haven't tried a Touriga before you're in for a treat - this is just fantastic. A pleasure to drink! One of the country's real winemaking maestros adds another string to his bow. A seriously juicy and fun red and one of the country's best Touriga Nacionals.

Our Final Word

The Winery:
5 red stars "The only surprising piece of background is that it took (an admittedly still reasonably youthful) Stephen Pannell (and wife Fiona) so long to cut the painter from Constellation/Hardys and establish their own winemaking and consulting business. Steve radiates intensity, and extended experience, backed by equally long experimentation and thought, has resulted in wines of the highest quality right from the first vintage. The Pannells purchased their first vineyard in McLaren Vale, planted in 1891, with a precious 3.57ha of shiraz; grenache, his most loved variety, will be one of the first varieties planted. Owning the vineyard will also give Stephen the ability to self-manage the vineyard, with the aim of generating full flavour ripeness as close to 13% as possible. The future for the Pannells is limitless, the icon status of the label already established."
