This wine doesn't stick around for long so we'd recommend adding a couple to your shopping cart - you'll be thankful for doing that!
In France they think that the skin of Mataró, or Mouvedre grapes are thick enough to 'choke a dog', and so this straight Mataró gets its name from. With aromas of a spice cupboard overarching delicious dark fruit and earth, the palate is more of the stunning same.
Awards and Accolades
2015 Vintage: 96 points - James Halliday, The Wine Front "Very good colour; vibrant and fresh, far distant from the mataros of bygone decades, the limited skin contact and controlled alcohol two of the keys. A fragrant bouquet with a mix of spicy and savoury scents leads into a medium-bodied palate with strikingly juicy mouthfeel and a fresh aftertaste."
From the Winemaker
Select parcels of old vine Mataro have been sourced from all over the Barossa…from Vine Vale, Greenock, Moppa and Ebenezer…all vinified separately to produce a wine that is complex and a pleasure to drink. There’s plenty of dark plum, mulberry fruits and five spice character on this Dog’s nose. Rich, savoury and spicy on the palate…all the stuff that makes us love this variety in abundance. This Dog is clearly ‘Best in Show’!”
