The red wine drinkers white wine! Bright pink; this blend of Grenache and Shiraz delivers a fragrant bouquet of raspberry and strawberry notes. These juicy red fruits follow through on the palate, with some fresh cherry also in the mix. It carefully toes the balance between sweet and dry - ripe fruit flavour interplaying nicely with fresh acidity. This will pair fantastically with light summer salads and grilled fish dishes.
Awards and Accolades
2016 Vintage: 92 Points - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion "Pale, but bright, lively pink hue; a dazzling display of just about every red fruit in the game; the balance between fruit, residual sugar and cleansing acidity is perfect. It isn't sweet, but nor is it dry - the ultimate food style."
2016 Vintage: 92 Points - Steve Leszcynski, QWine "Pretty in the glass, red currant, watermelon, strawberries, and white raspberries scream pleasure factor. A 68/32 blend, the fruit drives this all the way with a lick of spice washing through late. Oozing bargain factor, a wine for your summer drinking list. Chill hard and share will friends.'
From the Winery
The grapes for this wine were sourced from Angove Estate Vineyards as well as premium growers across South Australia. The Vintage was hectic with good spring rains followed by mild summer conditions causing everything to ripen early and at the same time. Careful management of our various blocks ensured we picked the grapes at the optimum time.
This year we are aiming to express the strawberry of the Grenache more and show a touch drier palate. Grenache (68%) was harvested and crushed at 11.5-12 Baume when not much colour is present, so it was left on skins for 12 hours prior to pressing. We only take the free run juice from this parcel and ferment using a special sparkling wine yeast until almost dry.
The Shiraz (32%) is harvested a little riper at 12.5 Baume and is much deeper in colour. After crushing, it spends 24 hours on skins prior to pressing with the free run and soft press being retained. The soft press fraction bring structure to the wine, making it perfect for a wide array of dishes. The Shiraz is fermented dry and then blended with the Grenache.
