The rose revolution is upon us! I’m in the midst of my own mini-revolt at the moment and all I seem to want to do is dilute my red wine and turn it into something bright, pink and crunchy! Adding white wine to my red wine however won't exactly give me my desired result ... I think I just heard winemakers throughout the world shudder in unison at that thought.
But, my point is, red wine is out, rose is IN! And what's not to love here. There is nothing more rewarding than sitting in my backyard on a sunny summer afternoon, the sun gently beaming down, a platter full of my favourite French cheeses, some music gently playing in the background and a glass of chilled rose to wash it all down. Now that to me is pure perfection.
Awards and Accolades
2015 Vintage: 92 Points - Mike Bennie, Wine Front "The rose is 100% sangiovese, and all fermented in French oak. The fruit comes from Chalmers Vineyard and Galli Estate. They’ve made a heap more of this in 2015 – it’s the kind of rose that should be found in every wine shop fridge to offer a vibrant alternative to the mainstream, major rose offerings Smells like red stuff. Touch of Campari. Pops out of the glass. Spicy in the palate, almost prickly with peppery spice. It’s lean, clean, red fruited, good bitter and super refreshing. Tangy through the finish, gets dry and dusty as you finish a sip. Spot on Summery rose."
From the Winery
Very similar approach in the winery as in the past few vintages with a mixture of parcels, all being farmed off to 100% old French oak for fermentation with a lot of lees work for texture. Natural ferments on the Rosé are commonly seeing super long fermentation periods of around 100 days and the wine has struck a chord of balance between a textured mid palate, yet supported by linear acidity. All in all producing the Foster e Rocco ‘house style’ we set out to make. A wine that is subtle in colour, highly fragrant, like lifted wild strawberry, cherries and red apples, sweet exotic spice and rich in texture, yet dry, savoury and refreshing.
