Bissoni Girapoggio Sangiovese di Romagna Superiore 2013

The colour is dark ruby with a bouquet of leather, earth, herbs, black cherries, liquorice and plums. The palate is medium bodied; round, spicy, elegant, attractively fruity and extremely versatile with any fare from pasta to meat, fowl and cheese.

Bissoni is a small winery which was born from the greatest and ancient mankind's passion: getting the best from the earth while respecting nature and environment.

This has been my aim since I started growing vines in 1988, when I bought a farm named Colecchio located just opposite the hill of Bertinoro; 12 hectares on a wonderful natural terrace where vines and olive trees have been grown ever since Roman times. This area, where in the past the excavations brought to light several prehistoric flints as well as many Roman objects, has always been called "Casticciano", from the Latin "Castricius".

Romagna is by now a region where wine culture and vine-growing have attained the same achievements as in other Italian regions which enjoy greater international fame, like Tuscany and Piedmont. The quality of the wines made in Romagna is nowadays renowned both in Italy and abroad, where the great value per price of our wines (hardly to be found elsewhere) is finally acknowledged.

Bissoni's wine-making philosophy is quite plain and hides no secrets: in order to preserve quality we limit yield to a low figure -60 quintals per hectare- and harvest by hand at the best maturation time, using the greatest care and attention. Thanks to these procedures, and to soil fertility, we get high quality grapes; vinification then is smoother and requires no particular processing.
