Bright and well-endowed with pure cherry, raspberry and black currant fruit, shaded by tobacco, licorice, and mineral flavours. Elegant, intense and persistent, with a long aftertaste of fruit and mineral. Chianti is the ultimate food wine, drink this overflowing from a tumbler with a big bowl of slow cooked rabbit ragu.

Past Accolades and Awards:
James Halliday - 96 "Poggerino is a benchmark for the region, due to the meticulous work in the vineyard and winery by Piero Lanza and his sister, Benedetta, this edition captures the freshness and clarity of the vintage, while offering the inherent complexity of Radda in Chianti; layered, linear and with seriously mouthcoating, ripe tannins, this is exactly the sort of wine that will disappear from the bottle quickly and have you reaching for another".
From the Winery
The winery's largest production (about 40.000 bottles per year). It is made from Sangiovese 100%. After a careful selection in the vineyard the grapes are de-stemmed and pressed. The alcoholic fermentation begins without the addition of selected yeasts and proceeds at 28°/30°C. The entire process of vinification and maceration take place in stainless steel tanks for approximately 35 days with pumpovers and manual punchdowns. In December the new wine is racked to casks of 20/25hl of Slovenian oak and tonneau of 4/5hl of French oak where the malolactic fermentation takes place. After ageing for 12 months the wine is assembled and bottled the following spring. The wine is aged for a minimum of 8 months before sale.
Its colour is light ruby, with aromas of blackberries, cherries and redcurrant, with a touch of licorice and vanilla spice. The tannins are sweet and persistent. Recommended with spicy-sauced pasta and mild-tasting red meats
