Deep ruby red in colour, some magenta flecks catch the eye. Lifted violet aromas from the viognier compliment black cherry notes. Some herbal elements combine well with cedary oak hints. The palate offers intense fresh cherry flavours along with dark chocolate and some savoury spice. Robust tannins provide good structure around a long, fruit laden finish.
Awards and Accolades
94 Points - Mike Bennie, Wine Front "This is in ripper form. It’s a firm, chewy red with plenty of fruit, ample character, and the kind of perfumed accessibility that has you at hello. Earth, leather, a solid swoosh of blackberry, a crackle of leaves, a splash of spices. Florals. Oak adds a polished sheen. And there’s a wealth of fine-grained tannin. Price makes it a steal."
From the Winery
There are 4 parcels of Shiraz, one of which is co-fermented with Viognier, which are used for the 2013 Shiraz Viognier. The batches are cold soaked, fermented to dryness and undergo malolactic fermentation in tank. The final wine, which is 5% viognier, undergoes 18 months of maturation in French oak, one third of which is new, before bottling.
Vintage 2013 saw the earliest start on record due to a dry spell from November through to February. Fortunately, we had vibrant, healthy canopies to protect the fruit in the summer hear, resulting in the fruit being of the highest quality.
