Rip out your wallets and simply buy yourself a treat. This vintage says it all with love, care and attention. This vintage is immediately Potent dark fruits, licorice, violets and cassis all combine to present a plush , full and rich Shiraz that exemplifies the heat to the vintage along with brilliant winemaking capacities.
I'm often asked for a big satisfying wine that drinks like an old world wine but puts the Aussie strength and character to the fore, this wine is immaculate and worthy of an extra splurge by you in advance of the festive period this year.
Awards and Accolades
94 Points, Special Value Wine - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion "From five vineyards in Young, largely 1654 and PT23 clones, 2-3 days cold soak, mostly open-fermented with pneumatic pigeage, some whole bunches included, cultured yeast, 5-8 days post-ferment maceration, matured in French oak (15-20% new) for 11 months. The usual (if that be the right word) Clonakilla signature of perfectly balanced fruit, tannins and oak, always complex yet always with great mouthfeel, black fruits to the fore, with a gentle sprinkle of spice and pepper."
2015 Vintage: 93 Points - Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front "Yes. This is good. Complete. Spicy, well-fruited, taut but expressive. It’s listed at 14.5% alc/vol but it doesn’t feel it; it has a modesty. Red and black berries with tobacco, stonefruit, anise and crushed dry spice. If mid-weight, savoury-accented reds are your go, you can’t go wrong here."
From the Winery
This Shiraz is made from grapes selected from five vineyards in the Hilltops District around Young on the South Western slopes of New South Wales.
The 2016 vintage continues a run of warm vintages for the Hilltops region. The vineyards appear to take the heat in their stride however. The vines responded by producing rich black Shiraz with great depth of flavour.
