With another winter well and truly here it’s going to take something special to keep you warm. From the rich Cambrian soil of Heathcote in Central Vic, this rich and savoury Shiraz is just the ticket.
The nose is rich with fruit, though tempered by spice and earth notes it becomes appealing rather than cloying. These elements are developed further on the palate with a core of black berries balanced against oak and velvety smooth tannins. A bright note of acidity at the end finishes everything off on a high note.
Awards and Accolades
2015 Vintage: 90 Points - Campbell Mattinson, Wine Front "Made from 30-year-old shiraz vines at Heathcote. Right on the money. This will please a lot of folks. It’s all about fruit but it gives a nod to spiciness/savouriness too. Dark berries come flashed with redcurrant. Dry, earthen spice rings through the finish. There’s tannin but it sits on the soft side of al dente. Beautifully composed."
From the Winery
Sourced primarily from an established thirty year-old vineyard, on the gentle sloping easterly face of the Mount Camel range. Primarily de-stemmed before fermentation in a mix of open and closed fermenters Primarily aged in one and two year old French oak with a portion matured in stainless steel to maintain fruit freshness and expression.
An excellent vintage for Heathcote with slightly above average summer conditions but not truly excessive heat and also relatively dry. Late summer day temperatures were consistent but the nights were unusually warm perhaps contributing to what was an extremely early vintage starting the 1st February. The established vines largely ignored the conditions to do what they always do – deliver intensely flavoured and well balanced fruit.
