The flagship wine of the heartland winery, this wine is made from the finest selection of shiraz from each vintage. As the name suggest this is the 'directors cut' and no compromises have been made throughout the wines production resulting in Heartland’s most powerful expression of Langhorne Creek’s classic varietals.
The dark berry fruit of the shiraz is immediately accessible giving way to the rich flavours of cocoa, spice, licorice and chocolate-coated coffee bean. This is a wine to be shared and contemplated with friends.
Awards and Accolades
2013 Vintage: 93 Points - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion "From vines average 40+yo, cool open-fermented on skins, matured vcin new French and American oak for 14 months. Full crimson-purple; supple, mouthfilling and hedonistic, with that velvety softness Langhorne Creek provides without sacrificing shape or focus; blackberry jelly beans and licorice strap are the flavours, even if they sound naff."
From the Winery
Our flagship wine is made from the finest selection of Shiraz from each vintage. As with films, the director’s cut is regarded as the definitive version – no compromises.
This soft and generous vintage has allowed Directors' Cut Shiraz to display all its youthful beauty. The dark berry fruit is immediately accessible and the flavours of cocoa, spice, licorice and chocolate-coated coffee bean are laid out for all to enjoy like a dinner platter. This is s wine to be shared and contemplated with friends.
The grapes are selected from some of the best vineyards in the region. These vineyards are chosen for the consistent intensity and texture of the fruit. The strictest pruning techniques are used. The fruit for Directors' Cut Shiraz was harvested at night and then crushed to small open top stainless steel fermenters. After 24 hours of skin contact, fermentation was commenced with our Rhone isolate yeast. Following 8 days of cool fermentation on skins and hand-plunging 3 times daily, the wine was transferred to French and American oak hogsheads for 14 months maturation.
