Stunning value once again from the maestro wine maker Ben Riggs. Just a superb expression of brilliant Shiraz at a knock down price that blows my mind every sip I take! Jip Jip has been offering up some outrageously good wines this vintage.
James Halliday: 93 Points! "...Medium to full-bodied palate with a velvety mouthfeel to the black fruits and bitter chocolate that might have easily been found in McLaren Vale."
This Shiraz is another devilish & delicious drop from the vintage that rocks the root stocks and all my mates just love it. A totally opaque, black, dark crimson-red colour hints at what is to come. Aromas of blackberry and plum are followed by a touch of licorice and some confectionery. Softly textured, the palate delivers generous flavours of licorice, blackberry, confectionery and toast with a spicy back palate. Slightly dry in style, but balanced tannins with aftertaste of licorice, toast and spice round it out perfectly. This is a real winner.
Accolades and Awards
SILVER - International Wine & Spirits Competition 2013 SILVER - China Wine & Spirits Awards 2013
93 Points - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion "Silver medals in London and China are an interesting duo; the red-pink granite (the Jip Jip rocks) soils are very different to the more common terra rossa of Padthaway and - coupled with the excellent '12 vintage - have invested the medium to full-bodied palate with a velvety mouthfeel to the black fruits and bitter chocolate that might have easily been found in McLaren Vale."
From the Winery
Fermentation took place over 10 – 12 days in a combination of open and static fermenters. The temperature was closely monitored to ensure the wine retains its natural fruit expression. New and older French and American oak was used for the maturation of selected wine parcels over a period of 13 months. These parcels were put together from our family estate to best demonstrate the depth and character of our fruit, balanced by integrated oak.
2012 was a very good season with predominantly mild, dry days. Yields were generally low and this did result in some excellent parcels of fruit being harvested. Vine-balance was carefully monitored, resulting in fruit that demonstrates the vibrancy and fruitderived characters that we strive for in our wines. By all accounts it was a textbook vintage.
