Hail the true magnificence of brilliant Barossa Shiraz majesty in a style that reflects some of the most wonderful and attentive winemaking skill you ever have the privilege of enjoying. John has twice been winemaker of the year and plenty more accolades and experience to fill the page here.
Let's focus on the wine instead - supple, plush and engaging in its's youth - this wine will indeed develop from youth to complex and layered masterpieces over some 10 -15 years and i just hope you are able to keep your cotton pickin' hands of it in the cellar long enough to try that far down the track?
The wine is deep , saturated with plumb brambly dark fruits and sweet of centre, cassis , spice and some pepper are all evident along with some structures of chocolate and mocha that rest comfortably as a backbone of sheer indulgence.
Brilliance, great vintage superb fruit , excellent winemaking skills? Cant give you anymore - Buy lots , buy now and enjoy in leisure!
Awards and Accolades
95 Points - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion Supplement "Allow this wine time to breathe and it spreads its wings impressively. It tastes of dark, sweet-centred blackberry, chocolate, mocha and ground spices but the way it combines freshness and depth is the thing; and then there's the way guy ropes of flavour-packed tannin stake a deep hold, keeping everything in place both now and long into the future."
95 Points - Campbell Mattinson, Australian Wine Companion "Tastes of dark, sweet-centred blackberry, chocolate, mocha and ground spices, but the way it combines freshness and depth is the thing; and then there's the way guy ropes of flavour-packed tannin stake a deep hold, aiming to keep everything in place both now and long into the future."
91+ Points - Mike Bennie, The Wine Front "Entity to Eligo is Bin 389 to Grange, one could say. Maybe? Shiraz from old vine, low yielding Barossa Valley vineyards. It’s a sinewy, tightly wound wine. Feels a bit pinched and mean through the finish, but I reckon time might help this wine. It smells of nougat, ripe red and black berry fruit, cocoa powder, dusty cedary wood. Richness and ripeness of fruit upfront, bold, sweet flow finishes short, but in a youthful and not mean spirited way. Some herbal, saline character lingers. Plenty under the hood, loads will find pleasure in the unctuous flow of the wine. There you go."
From the Winery
Traditional, low intervention winemaking techniques were employed with Entity, allowing the wine to be approachable in its youth, but with ample structure and fruit depth to allow great potential for improvement in the bottle under good cellaring conditions, for at least 10-12 years.
Shiraz 100%, sourced from old vineyards Marananga, Eden Valley, Ebenezer and Krondorf regionss. Fermentation with submerged cap and small open stainless steel fermenters. Oak Maturation: 100% barrel matured for 15 months, with 35% new fine grain French oak hogsheads (300 litres) and the balance in 2, 3 and 4 year old hogsheads.
