Sensed that this is just waking from a slumber, unravelling, unfurling, revealing itself. Pencil shaving oak, spice, black fruit with a touch of dried herb in the mix too. Possesses a medium bodied elegance, a mineral coolness that also supports black fruit by way of plum and cherry with a little lift of blue fruit. In many respects its a wine of subtlety, of elegance. It finishes elegantly, effortlessly, tannin is present, not an overt presence - more a fine coating to conclude.
K1 Shiraz has a dense inky colour, with excellent concentration. The nose shows beautiful plum and black cherry fruit with heady spice notes of cloves and black pepper. It is reflecting the generosity of the K1 vineyard 'terroir' on the Shiraz variety. We love Geoff Hardy at Winebox and the K1 wines are always his most expressive and pleasing.
Awards and Accolades
2014 Vintage: 94 Points - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion "All the '14 wines have what at first sight are two gold medals on their front, but in fact tell the consumer that the SA-based Winestate magazine announced Wines by Geoff Hardy as Australian Wine Company of the year in both '12 and '14. The bouquet and palate pull no punches with their display of both red and black fruits, spice and high quality tannins. Will develop for many years."
From the Winery
The K1 Shiraz reflects the generosity of the K1 vineyard 'terroir' on the Shiraz variety. The K1 Shiraz has a dense inky colour with excellent concentration. The nose is lean with upfront white pepper and potpourri aromas with hints of stone fruits and dried orange. The palate is reserved and elegant with plum and white pepper. The concentrated fruit flavours are well balanced with a mix of quality French and American oak, finished off perfectly with silken tannins. Although enjoyable now, the combination of these qualities suggest this wine will age gracefully well into the next decade.
Matured for 20mths in 80% French barriques, & 20% American Hogsheads. 40% new oak, and 60% aged between 2 and 5 years.
