I just had another look at this little Coonawarra Gem from 40 year old vines - A ripping wine with some 15 years of cellaring done for you. I then looked at it agin after being open for 3 days and was very impressed along with the team as to how its able to show such vibrancy. The colour is still showing very well, the nose is choc full of dark cherry and lovely oak. The wine itself is medium bodied and shows plenty of dark fruits along with some nice medium tannins that add together to make a really nice old world style that has oodles of style and complexity, while delivering a most satisfying Shiraz that is drinking really well.
Awards and Accolades
93 Points - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion "Supple, smooth black cherry and plum fruit; fine ripe tannins"
91 Points - Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front "Another excellent release from Ladbroke Grove, with a stunning syrupy softness to the mound of ripe, raw, luscious blackberry fruit power on offer. It’s almost a clone of the Majella Shiraz from the same year, with a burst of exquisite plum juicing it up and a coffeed, satiny gloss of vanilla coating it all."
Highly Recommended - Wine Wise "A fine, spicy shiraz with savoury tannins and good supporting acidity. Complex, faintly leathery, notes on the nose ass to its appeal. Highly recommended"
