It’s been said that the purpose of art is to make us question (what that might be is a different matter), fortunately for those after a good drop rather than discussion, Leeuwin’s Art Series Shiraz will leave you with only one burning query – is there any more?
It’s the combination of fruit (blueberries, tart Satsuma plum, and juicy mulberry), fragrant spice (star anise, cardamom, five spice) and floral violet that makes for such a heady aroma, it’s both lively and appealing, and breathing it in makes the first mouthful all the more appealing. The bright fruits get a bit darker in the mouth, showing great depth and intensity with subtle hints of cocoa, freshly split vanilla pod, and cinnamon. The finish is drawn out, laced with a silky smooth tannin structure.

Accolades and Awards
94 points - Huon Hooke, HuonHooke.com "Deep, youthful red/purple colour and a dusty, char-oak led bouquet, the palate full-bodied and quite tannic, deep and layered with lasting power and grip. Superb flavour and balance, texture and charm. This has the structure to take some age well."
94 points - Ray Jordan, STM Magazine "Love the way this variety has really come into its own at Leeuwin. This is a more medium-bodied expression showing impeccable balance and integration. Silky smooth tannins and fine-grained oak with a savoury fruit character. Totally seamless palate is superb."
2013 Vintage: 96 Points - James Halliday, Wine Companion "75% machine-harvested, 25% hand-picked, destemmed and whole bunch-fermented respectively with cultured yeast, matured for 18 months in French oak (53% new). Leeuwin took time to come to terms with its Shirazs, but is now master of its destiny. It has black cherry and plum flavours in superabundance, plus finely tuned tannins, its modest alcohol is the key."
