Recently taking out not one, not two but THREE gold medals! Taking out the top prize for best Shiraz at the Royal Adelaide Show, the Six Nations Wine Challenge AND Wine Showcase Magazine, this cooler climate option from Levantine is already a head turner. The wine is a brilliant purple in colour; its bouquet is pure vibrant fruit opulent with a subtle hint of soft flora. The palate is fruit driven with spice and soft textural tannins, finishing firm and long with persisting white pepper/dusty character and excellent natural acidity. Typically feminine, beautiful, cool climate Shiraz- lending itself to the more traditional Syrah. I could rave about this all day. A real treat and particular special value for money.
Accolades and Awards:
Awarded Gold Medal for the invitation-only Six Nations Wine Challenge: SIX NATIONS WINE CHALLENGE (2012)
Gold Medal: 2014 Royal Adelaide Wine Show- 18.5/20 (2012) "We are very pleased to announce that we have been awarded another accolade, this time a Gold Medal at a major Australian wine show. The highly prestigious 2014 Royal Adelaide Wine Show awarded our Levantine Hill Syrah 2012 a Gold Medal (in Shiraz class 30). We were the only Victorian wine to win a gold medal in the Shiraz, 2012 vintage class and we were awarded 18.5 (out of 20). This is a truly extraordinary achievement for our very first vintage of Syrah and a true testament to our people’s commitment to produce exceptional wines, handcrafted without compromise."
Awarded Gold Medal: WINE SHOWCASE MAGAZINE (2012)
HUON HOOKE: 95 (2012) Awarded Gold Ribbon, 95 points (2012) James Halliday: 94 (2012) Bright, clear crimson-purple; fermented in open pots, plunged twice daily, and pressed to 100% new French oak, it is no more than medium-bodied, and the tannins are fine, so the risk of oak dominating proceedings was obvious, but didn't eventuate. The wine is juicy and silky, with as much red fruit as black, and nigh-on perfect length and balance. 400 dozen made.
From the Winery: A silky-smooth rendition of Shiraz, this wine is better suited to the old-world name Syrah. It is restrained and complex, providing layer after layer of earth, cedar, and currant in the traditional elegant style. Eminently drinkable now, our Syrah is expected to cellar well for up to 15 years. Limited production: 400 dozen
Our Shiraz block of the PT23 clone enjoys a northeasterly aspect, allowing for the slow development of the wine's complex characteristics. The vines were planted in 1995 in soil comprised of ancient mountain-derived sandy clay loams interspersed with broken sandstone.
