McWilliam's Balance Shiraz 2008 |
| |
|
|
Vintage Conditions: A continued dry spell affected much of the fruit development during the vintage period but late spring rains provided a well timed boost to the vines and encouraged fruit development. The following months leading through ripening and up to harvest proved to be mild and dry, assisting the fruit to develop well-balanced characters.
Vinification and Maturation: For this special Shiraz the fruit was picked earlier in the harvest to achieve a lower alcohol level in the final wine. Select parcels of spicy, vibrant Shiraz grapes were chosen and harvested in the cool of the night. Following destemming the grapes were vinified in static fermenters to maximise flavour. The finished wine was then filtered and bottled under screw cap to preserve all of the aromatic fruit characters.
Colour: Medium red purple.
Bouquet: Vibrant aromas of red berries, spice and background mocha oak
Palate: Vibrant, youthful wine showing juicy berry fruits of blood plums and red currant. A fresh, aromatic style with background oak influences and a soft, supple tannin finish.
Food Pairing: Grilled lean veal cutlet on ratatouille; beef and mixed vegetable stir fry.
"WEIGHT Watchers has endorsed a new range of McWilliam's wines by allotting each 150ml glass of Balance shiraz or semillon/sauvignon blanc a "one" point value. The $16 Balance wines are light in alcohol (8.5 per cent) and are one-third lower in kilojoules than mainstream tipples such as McWilliam's Hanwood shiraz and chardonnay." - Cecily Ryan and Jeff Collerson.
