Paulmara are a small producer of Shiraz from the one and only Barossa. One of Penfolds growers this is their straight Shiraz and is turning heads throughout the industry! Crafted carefully from some very fine Shiraz fruit indeed, this has become far and away our number one staff drink. Marching to its own beat but with marked familiarities of the Barossa, the Paulmara Shiraz has had us all running to the tasting bar for a regular top up! 2012 was one of the absolute best vintages of the past decades, up there with the stellar 2002 and the fabled 1996, and some incredible wines came forth, this among the vanguard. Drawing from old vines, there is intensity and complexity without pretensions of winemaking artefact. Rich and smooth, with dark plum, dark cocoa and blackberry, some white pepper but more black, and bigger heft, all based around a sturdy backbone of seamless acid and bold but rounding fine oak tannin... we couldn’t be happier with this wine.
