Vibrant, deep plum with purple hues. Lifted perfume, dark fruit with attractive floral, some cedar and black olive. Full, rich, even and smooth. This wine has complexity with great fruit expression and a savoury edge. Oak flavours integrate with the fruit to enhance the flavour. Well structured and very approachable.
Accolades and Awards
2014 Vintage: 96 Points - James Halliday, Wine Companion 2018 "Biodynamic-grown fruit, open-fermented, matured in French and American barriques for 18 months. A celebrated McLaren Vale single vineyard wine, effortlessly providing a deep well of black fruits and fine-grained tannins, the oak a positive contributor, not a rabble rouser."
From the Winery
2015 vintage was one of the shortest and earliest ever recorded in McLaren Vale. Until February we experienced one of the coolest and driest summers since 1980. However, February warmed up and we saw early ripening of the grapes. This early ripening, as well as long periods without rain, made for fantastic colour and intense flavours at harvest. A great year for red and white varieties.
Hand picked at optimum sugar and flavour equilibrium, the grapes were kept on skins for 15 days. The ferment was pumped over and plunged twice a day to extract colour, flavour and tannin structure. Once pressed, we used a combination of French and American oak barriques (30% new) for maturation of up to 20 months prior to blending and bottling. This wine was cellared for a further 12 months prior to release.
