Penfolds release new wines slowly and with lots of thought as the current range sells out the minute it is released! Penfolds Max’s Shiraz Cabernet is a tribute to former Chief Winemaker Max Schubert 1948-1975 and what a wine to introduce you to. Predominantly Shiraz with 15% Cabernet you have a dark crimson monster awaiting your eye and a big chunky dark summer cherry with savoury notes compelling from the side lines.
This blend from a mixture of Padthaway, McLaren Vale, Wrattonbully and Robe provide the excellent blended beast with 12 months of oak - It's singing from the traditional Penfolds hymn book and lording you with plenty of depth, seduction and sublime focussed tannins for grip and grist - The grist will be as you finish the bottle!
Enjoy!
From the Winery
A legend in Penfolds history, Max’s constant pursuit of excellence paved the way for those who followed in his footsteps and also allowed the status and heritage of Penfolds Winery to grow. A more approachable Penfolds style at release – ideally shelf to glass; save the cellar.
12 months in French oak (10% new), with the balance in seasoned French and American oak hogsheads. Above average winter rainfall prepared the vines in South Australia with healthy soil moisture pro les for the growing season. Spring rainfall was below long-term average resulting in early budburst, with November being the driest since 1974. Warm weather prevailed during summer and throughout veraison, allowing grapes to develop evenly and with good intensity. These conditions came to an abrupt halt on 14th February with a signi cant rainfall event slowing harvest. Improved conditions thereafter allowed the fruit to ripen slowly, retaining acid and developing desired colour, avour and ripe tannins.
