A rich and velvety Shiraz crafted from Central Ranges fruit. There are lifted berry aromas alongside plum, cinnamon and anise on the nose, followed by a soft palate that delivers flavours of mocha, stewed plum and some vanillin notes from French oak maturation. There's good length to the finish, guaranteed to keep you coming back.
From the Winery
Pocketwatch Shiraz continues the Oatley family history of fine craftsmanship. In selecting a number of richly flavoured parcels of grapes from our vineyards in the Central Ranges of NSW and with quality French oak influence, our winemakers have created a sumptuous and velvety red wine with complexity and some spicy characteristics. It tastes of berries, plums, baking spices and a touch of mocha on the lasting firm finish.
Our Pocketwatch wines pay tribute to my great great grandfather James Oatley (1770-1839). One of Australia’s early convict settlers, James was a master watch and clockmaker who was soon pardoned by Governer Macquarie, appointed Keeper of the Sydney Town Hall Clock and commissioned to install the still functioning turret clock in the pediment of the Hyde Park Barracks. As part of his remuneration he received a number of land grants from Governor Brisbane, including a 300-acre lot that is now the southern Sydney suburb of Oatley.
