Awesome Coonawarra Shiraz from the guys at Redman. The mid weight palate shows sweet fruit, soft round tannins and balanced acidity throughout, before a lingering, dry finish. Hugely enjoyable drinking, we'd recommend enjoying with some roast lamb chops.
The grapes were mechanically harvested and crushed in the field. Carefully monitored fermentation, using specially selected yeast, was carried out in open concrete and stainless steel fermenters. The wine was matured in American and French oak barrels for fourteen months prior to bottling.
Awards and Accolades
GOLD - Limestone Coast Wine Show 2017
SILVER - at the Boutique Wine Awards 2014
2012 Vintage: 95 Points - James Halliday, Wine Companion "From an exceptionally good vintage, and the wine reflects this. Matured for 12 months in American and French hogsheads. Bright colour, then a bouquet filled with black cherry/blackberry fruit, oak also in the picture. A rich and long palate with great balance between the fruit, oak and tannins. Exceptional bargain."
From the Winery
The 2013 Redman Shiraz is made from grapes grown on vines that are over forty years old, and carefully hand pruned, on the Redman family vineyards in the heart of Coonawarra.
The conditions leading into the 2013 vintage were excellent, with good winter rains and a warm fast flowering period in late spring. A good fruit set resulted in average crop levels. Summer was warm and dry, with a cool autumn allowing the grapes to ripen to optimum maturity.
The Shiraz grapes were harvested during the third week of March. The fruit showed excellent flavour and varietal definition. The grapes were mechanically harvested and crushed in the field. Initial fermentation was carried out in open fermenting tanks and the cap was hand plunged twice a day.
The wine completed fermentation on skins, and was then transferred to barrels. The wine was bottled, in February 2015, after eighteen months aging in American & French oak hogsheads.
