This deep cherry red wine fills the glass with aromas reminiscent of sweet red berries. dark cherries enhanced with licorice, cassis, hints of vanilla and blueberries on the medium bodied palate. Ripe tannins and complex acidity lend to the overall perception of a smooth, approachable red wine, with a nice persistence of flavour that lingers well on the palate.
Awards and Accolades
92 Points - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion "Good colour; this is as smooth, supple and enticing as possible, with satin mouthfeel and fresh fruit in abundance. It is no wimp, with depth to its black and blue berry fruits and innate balance; oak is an incidental extra, the tannins in the same class, more a memory than a physical presence. Moderate alcohol is a triumph."
From the Winery
A collection of five Barossa Valley Shiraz vineyards contributed fruit with varying characteristics and add a nice complexity to this wine. The vineyards in the northern region of the Barossa are known for adding depth and weight to a wine, while the vineyards in the Marananga bowl give the wine power and length. Our criteria is to select vineyards that are cropped at a level that is in harmony with the growth of the vines and the strength of the soil.
The Shiraz for this wine was picked over a period of three weeks, coming from vineyards in the inner west and northern reaches of the Barossa. All batches are crushed as one, using traditional pump over or heading downboards during the fermentation. After pressing, the seperate free run juice and pressings are blended back together.
Maturation was done in a majority of shaven American and French oak hogshead barrels. The use of this oak was chosen to add a texture of oak to the wine to balance thewonderfl natural fruit flavours that the 2012 vintage provided.
