A smashing Shiraz from this illustrious Barossa Valley winery! This is ripe and expressive, a great example of what this outstanding region can achieve. A swirl reveals the nose of ripe dark berries, a touch of dark chocolate and some subtle toasty oak. The palate is vibrant with great depth of flavour; more rich berry, ripe cherry and plum supported by a strong backbone of well-integrated tannins and delicate oak nuances of vanilla and cedar. The velvety texture and mouthfeel precedes a long, lingering finish.
The 1859 range of wines celebrate the year of Saltram's establishment in the Barossa by founder William Salter.

From the Winery
Above average rainfall during winter and early spring set the vines up for a good season. There were some intermittent cold bursts early, which resulted in frost damage through parts of the Barossa. On the whole, conditions were warm and dry, until mid-February when there was significant rainfall followed by cooler temperatures. These cooler temperatures slowed down the ripening process of the grapes, and resulted in good quality fruit being harvested.
