There's something about a cooler climate Shiraz that seems so romantic. Bright crimson-purple; the bouquet ranges through blackberry, black cherry, spice, white pepper and licorice, all of which come through on the vibrantly flavoured palate, proclaiming its cool climate; high quality oak has been used to best advantage, the tannins perfectly pitched, the finish exceptionally long. I really can't rave enough about this little beauty. 2012 was a ripping vintage and Scotchmans Hill have produced a Shiraz worthy of a much, much higher price tag!
Previous Accolades: James Halliday says:95 Hand-picked and destemmed into small fermenters for a 5-day pre-fermentation soak, then wild yeast-fermented before spending 15 months in French barriques; has a striking vibrancy of flavour to its red and black fruits, with spice and licorice also in play on the long, medium-bodied palate. Best Drinking: To 2030
Rob Geddes MW says: 93 Only a medium-weight wine but they have so much packed into them. Cool-climate fresh berry savoury smoked meats and fragrant black pepper; medium bodied supple and fleshy with ripe blackberry to finish. A gem
