Seppelt is a bit like Ned Kelly, an Aussie household icon. For generations now it's been a welcomed guest at dinner parties, its proven itself amongst the big guns at BBQ's and again and again when you have stood looking bewildered at the walls of wine in bottle shops, it's familiar bottle has been like a long lost friend in a foreign country. The Foundation Range Shiraz is the core of the Seppelt range, it is consistent, unflawed and always rewarding.
Accolades and Awards
2014 Vintage: 96 Points - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion "The lines of acid and tannin, the colouring in of flavour, the light and shade of berried/clovey fruit and savoury-peppery spice. This is that rare moment on the wine map where balance runs into X-factor."
2014 Vintage: 95 Points - Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front "Chalambar almost always attracts a vast number of comments on this site, well-informed and wise as subscribers to this site are, but out in the wilds of wine appreciation it’s generally an under-rated and under-appreciated wine. Or so I would argue. This is another terrific release. Well-fruited but savoury to it back teeth; light-ish but powerful enough; peppery but not sneezy with it; fingered with tannin but lengthy. It is spot on, to a tee, on the money; bullseye."
From the Winery
Deriving its name from the picturesque Mount Chalambar near Great Western in central Victoria, Seppelt Chalambar Shiraz has an excellent pedigree, having been made since 1953. Originally crafted by the legendary Colin Preece and labelled as Chalambar Burgundy, this wine has become one of the most sought after Seppelt releases each year due to its consistency, quality and value.
Sourced from the Grampians and Bendigo regions in Western and Central Victoria, there is a great balance of violets, pepper and spice from the Grampians fruit that provides contrasting elegance to the strength of Bendigo's dark plum fruit. Seppelt Chalambar Shiraz highlights the benefits of blending these distinctive wine regions. The result is a style that is approachable on release with the structure to age gracefully if carefully cellared.
