St Hallett Old Block Shiraz 2008 |

"Roast mocha oak, dark fruit, with red glimmers coming through, along with a touch of tar and aniseed – a subtle eucalyptus perfume above. Full bodied but not blown out, with a savoury oak component competing with fruit flavour. Plenty of depth here, along with slightly rugged, but appealing tannin structure. Layered. There’s even a suggestion of strawberry in the after-taste. I’ve been surprised by plenty of wines from this vintage – here’s another to add to the list. 95 Points." - Gary Walsh.
"Good depth to colour; a rich and fleshy wine, with plum, blackberry, vanillan oak and ripe, soft tannins all in harmony; will live for decades, but the impatient won't be disappointed. 94 Points." - James Halliday.
An icon of the Barossa, St Hallett Old Block is an elegant and seamless Shiraz widely acknowledged as world class. Derived purely from low cropping old vines of 60 to over 100 years of age, Old Block Shiraz is by it's very nature exclusive.
Colour: Ruby red with a touch of crimson at the hue.
Bouquet: Complexand enticing are the first two words that spring to mind. Nutmeg cinnamon, menthol, dark chocolate, cherry and plum are all evident.
Palate: This vintage of Old Block is an opulent, rich yet vibrant expression of old vine Barossa shiraz with an impressive array of velvety tannins. Layers of Blackberry tart, cherry pastry and cocoa flavours marry up with subtle hints of eucalypt and cinnamon. As one would expect from Old Block Shiraz this wine has power, balance and persistence.
