A single region offering here from the folks at Teusner. Following on from an outstanding 2013 vintage, this provides more of the same.
Deep black in the glass, loaded with hallmark Barossa fruit and a touch of spice. Medium-full bodied with good texture and ripe tannins. Can be enjoyed young, and will benefit from up to 10 years in the cellar.
Accolades and Awards
90 Points - Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front "This shiraz from the Stonewell sub-region of the Barossa takes sight of the groove and then runs straight along it. It’s just what lovers of Barossa Shiraz ordered. Rich with blackberry, earth, clove and chocolatey oak flavour. It leans towards sweet fruit but is well balanced and finishes with coal-like, clovey edges. A lick-your-lips style of red. Done very nicely."
2013 Vintage
95 Points - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion "Vivid crimson-purple colour announces a wine aflame with energy - befitting the Wark family; daughter Marnie painted the emblematic label; the intensity and focus of the wine are excellent, with sultry black fruits, wisps of olive, earth and pickled plum sustained by finely detailed tannins. Will always be on the lookout for a kangaroo or a deer."
89 Points - Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front "It’s a straight-faced, straight-laced, fruit-driven Barossa shiraz. It tastes of leather, licorice, earth and blackberry with a gently toasty edge. It hits the spot. There’s some volatility to the nose but it doesn’t work as a negative. This is a pretty handy wine."
From the Winery
The Wark Family have been growing Shiraz at Stonewell since they planted their vineyard on their farm in 1995. They grow fantastic Barossa Shiraz, and each vintage for the past few years we’ve been taking a bit more of their fruit. In 2013, we managed to get our hands on enough to release a wine made solely from their vineyard…a wine black in colour, brimming with plums, dark fruits, warm spices and ripe tannins. All the stuff you want to hear when people talk about top Barossa Shiraz.
