Torbreck Woodcutters Shiraz 2009 |

Delightful plum and chocolate notes with luscious berries everywhere; spice and pepper give it a regional wink. It's hard to think of a better red under $25 on the market.
Although this wine is constantly praised for being succulent and rich - perhaps the best feature of this wine is its complexity and texture which are rarely found at this price.
The name Woodcutter’s stems from when David Powell spent several years working in the Scottish Highlands as a lumberjack or woodcutter in the Torbreck forest.
This is just a reflection of the up and coming younger Shiraz vineyards of the Barossa, rather than the battle hardened old warriors which make up the heart and soul of the of the established Torbreck range.
'Naturally it tastes full of sweet fruit, but it seems drier than previous releases. Or less overtly of caramelised sugar. I mean this as a positive. It tastes of blackberry and aniseed, dark cherries and violets. It doesn’t have an enormous amount of depth but it’a juicy and tasty and beautifully fruited. It’s a style of Barossan shiraz I wish I tasted more of; it’s all about freshness. It’s well worth buying and drinking. 89 Points' - Campbell Mattinson, winefront.com.au
