Two Hands Gnarly Dudes Shiraz 2012

A mélange of fruits explode on the nose; bright red berries, spiced plums and chocolate coupled with subtle hints of fresh flowers and cedary oak.

Pure and focused with lively black berries, black pepper and bitter chocolate. Lovely bright acids and fine yet tight tannins provide the ideal framework to a palate that is both long and pure. This wine has the intensity and power without ever feeling rich or heavy. A great Gnarly Dudes from an equally great 2012 Barossa vintage.

The many parcels making up this wine were crushed into and fermented in three, five, seven and 10 tonne open top vessels. Regular pump overs three times daily were performed during the peak of fermentation to extract flavours, colour and tannins. At pressing, the free run and pressings were combined to tank, then racked to barrel for oak maturation where malolactic fermentation occurred. All batches were kept separate and blended just prior to bottling.

James Halliday: 93
This is undeniably medium- to full-bodied, but does not overwhelm you with the Parkeresque gobfuls of fruit; here tannins replace the bitter chocolate to provide a savoury/earthy flourish to a very good wine.

Huon Hooke: 91
From a top vintage, this is one of Two Hands' best-value reds. It's deep red-purple, rich and blackberry scented, succulently fruit-sweet, with supportive oak and soft tannins, finishing with length and authority.
