Fantastic value Hunter Valley Shiraz from Tyrrell's. We'd recommend having a case of this handy next time you fire up the barbecue, great with roast lamb!
A deep dark red in appearance, the nose displays young red fruit and a touch of earthiness. More red fruit on the palate, with some spicy notes. Some light oaky characteristics are evident from time in the barrel, but these are fairly restrained. A touch of acidity keeps this nicely poised, and fine grained tannins provide structure leading into a lingering finish.
Awards and Accolades
91 Points - Mike Bennie, The Wine Front "Chris Tyrrell calls this wine ‘A good result from an awful vintage’. There’s often some good wines from awful vintages, and awful wines from good vintages. All part of the joy of wine. The light and shade. The ups and downs. etc.
First and foremost, this is a lovely drink. It’s not one for the cellar; it’s one to enjoy now. Boysenberry, violets, vanilla, hazelnut and what might best be described as ‘earthy wet vintage spiciness.’ It’s medium bodied at best, fresh and gently sappy, with earthy spicy flavours threaded through plump forest berries. Tannin is light and dry, and the finish is again complex and savoury, and thoroughly satisfying. It’s Hunter Valley Burgundy through and through. It’s a pleasure to drink. Try it."
From the Winery
Sourced from a small selection of our favourite Shiraz blocks, the grapes were both hand and machine picked before fermentation in the traditional open top vats. The wine was then matured in older, large format French oak casks. These 2,700 litre casks highlight the fruit purity whilst making sure that oak isn’t the dominant character.
