Deep dark red black colour with dark red purple hue. The nose displays inky plum and liquorice aromas overlaid by some toasty vanillin oak with a hint of spice as an end note. Medium weight with simplistic palate flavours of dark plum, toasty oak and spice. Soft fine grained tannins with aftertaste of inky plum, toasty oak and spice.
Past Accolades and Awards:
Ray Jordon: 90 (2012) A juicy and delicious wine from the Heathcote region. Like the savoury and earthy gravelly characters which pervade the nose and the palate. There is typical firmness through the middle palate which wraps its cuddly arms around the middle core of fruit. Excellent wine for this price.
Mike Frost: 90 (2012) The expanded and new - look Lost Block range offers very good value drinking from several regions. This Heathcote red shows rich dark berry fruit on the nose and medium - bodied palate, with restrained oak and fine tannins. Enjoy with a good steak or gourmet beef sausages over the next year or two.
Jim McMahon (2012): Deep purple with a pink-crimson hue, with a nose that is not overly expressive but which certainly makes up for this on the palate, which is soft and fruit-driven with savoury spice and blackcurrant with light mulberry and liquorice flavours showing through. Oak is minimal, as are the tannins which are seamlessly integrated. This medium bodied wine finishes dry with a spicy finish.
Alan Hunter: 90 (2012) While this household name makes you think of the Hunter, Tyrrell’s also has a significant vineyard investment in Heathcote. A pure expression of medium-to-full-bodied shiraz fruit unhindered by oak, with ripe, bright red-blue fruits given shape and structure by fine tannins. A balanced, good-value, enjoy-anytime red.
