I am very impressed with Vintage 2013 and especially so, when these guys get to do what they do best.
Although nothing reviewed on this wine by wine writers as yet , with such a small production it is in your best interest to load up as prices will rise and stocks become scarce very quickly once it does. This wine is all of the below descriptions - not meaning to be lazy, simply , it is all spot on , only BETTER! You be the judge , let me know when your vote is in! Cheers.....

2012 Writeup:

You won't see a better offer than this all week. A 96 point Shiraz for under $20? Wow!

Totally opaque inky black crimson colour with deep dark crimson black hue. Uplifted aromas of liquorice and black cherry blossom from the glass followed by some blackberry, toasty oak and spice. Full bodied the palate features lashings of succulent fruit wrapped up in a voluptuously textured mouthfeel. Rich lavish flavours of liquorice, black cherry and blackberry flood the palate with some underlying toasty vanillin oak and spice nuances. Outstanding concentration and depth for its price. Velvety tannins only enhance the wines plush round mouthfeel. Long aftertaste of liquorice, ripe blackberry, toasty vanillin oak and spice. Outstanding value.

Accolades and Awards:

2012 Vintage: 95 Points - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion
"The region, viticulturist and winemaker all had their stars aligned for this utterly delicious, medium-bodied wine; black berries, blue berries and dark cherries dance across the mouth, showing a dab of spice and chocolate seasoning as they do so. The wine wants for nothing."

About the Winery

Dr John Possingham, a research graduate of Adelaide and Oxford Universities, implemented the mechanisation of vine trellising, harvesting and pruning in Australia in the 1960's. His techniques went on to influence wine regions all over the world. Dr Possingham also established 'Possums Vineyards' with his wife, Carol Summers in 1980. They purchased two vineyard sites in McLaren Vale – 30 ha in Willunga (on the Willunga escarpment where red loam soils sit on limestone) and 30 ha in Blewitt Springs. Existing vines on the sites were saved from the vine pull scheme and integrated into the new plantings.

The 'Dr. John' range of wines was introduced in late 2010. These are single vineyard wines hand made by Pieter Breugem, the company's South African winemaker. The aim of this project is to pick out the best batches and blocks. Pieter then puts his own stamp on the wines.
