A delicate expression of Syrah, with light floral aromatics and medium in body. Offering a core of concentrated dark fruit flavour, fine tannins and some oaky notes complete the palate. Elegant and with great depth, this offers cellaring potential for 10 years and beyond.
Awards and Accolades
96 Points - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion "5% whole bunches wild-fermented in oak cuves, matured in French oak (15% new) for 11 months. The vintage was challenging for pinot, but not for shiraz. Both the bouquet and medium to full-bodied palate have a smoky/savoury/spicy undertow easily dealt with by the black fruits and generous tannins."
2015 Vintage: 95 Points - Campbell Mattinson, Wine Front "A motor humming below a thick shiny duco. Plenty of herby, nutty foliage and a wealth of velvety, berried fruit. Bursts of smoke. Taut finish. Graphite tannin. Layers. Class."
From the Winery
Winter of 2015 was cold and dry, the coldest in 26 years, with an average of 13.9°C.
Cold and dry conditions continued into spring, with below average rainfall throughout September and October. Budburst occurred in mid-September. Flowering commenced early November with the dry conditions prevailing. The gentle, dry and warm conditions led to excellent fruit set and pre-bunch closure around 30 November. Summer began with below average rainfall and above average temperatures.
It was Victoria’s third warmest summer on record and we were thankful for the prevailing sea breezes in our part of the world. February was hot and dry and harvest commenced at Yabby Lake on 11 February, the earliest vintage on record at Yabby Lake - one week earlier than 2015, unprecedented for the Mornington Peninsula. The fruit was picked in excellent, pristine condition – with concentrated fruit flavours and exceptional colours.
