Another bargain coming from the Castilla la Mancha region of Spain!
The nose is very expressive and perfumed with juicy red and dark-berried fruit joined by smoky spice and earthy undertones. The palate is vibrant and medium bodied with decadent layers of ripe cranberry, berry fruit and a hint of cherry cola. Savoury spice and supple, fine grained tannins provide definition to the finish. A pure drinkers wine that offers a truly rewarding experience and incredible value. Drink now or cellar for up to five years.
A blend of 92% Tempranillo and 8% Garnacha
Awards and Accolades
92 Points - Sam Kim, Wine Orbit "This is impressively fruited on the nose showing blackberry, dark plum, toasted almond and floral characters with subtle notes of black olive and game. The palate is succulent and intensely flavoured, and displays excellent mid palate weight and silky texture, brilliantly structured by fine, chalky tannins. The wine is modern, up front and flavoursome, and offers terrific drinking."
From the Producer
After several uncertain and inconsistent vintages, 2015 was a breath of rather warm air. A very hot and dry vintage with record breaking July temperatures was moderated by the high altitude of Manchuela and the age of the vineyards. Light rain and cooler weather in Autumn revitalised the vines before a trouble free harvest and outstanding, intensely flavoured fruit.
Totally de-stemmed with a short cold soak before a long, cool fermentation with daily pump - overs to achieve optimum fruit and colour. The core of the blend was aged in stainless steel before six months maturation in seasoned French and American oak. A component of up to twenty percent Rioja Tempranillo aged in French oak is added to the blend three months before bottling.
The vast, high and dry plains of Castilla la Mancha comprise over 50% of Spain’s vineyards. The ancient soils and high altitude ensures the richly flavoured fruit maintains structure and tannin. Vineyards planted on the slopes of mountain ranges in the north and north east add a degree of elegance to the wines.
