  Marques De Tezona Tempranillo 2014
Marques De Tezona Tempranillo.gif
While we can’t just duck over to Spain for the weekend (one good thing about living in Britain) we can at least crack a bottle of this superb Tempranillo and pretend. Native to Spain, it’s a pretty safe bet that the Spanish do it the best, and while I wont confirm or deny this they certainly have it down pat, especially when it comes to making affordable quaffers like this. While not what you would call 'fruit-driven', but it is a great food wine due to its earthy, savoury nature. There are some dark cherries and liquorice touches, though, and it is very soft and approachable which guarantees it’ll be a hit across the board.

"Pretty much puts the sword to most local red wines at this price point. It tastes like a ‘real’ red wine. Importer: Fourth Wave Wine. Sweet red fruit, dusty wood and spice, aniseed. Medium bodied, well metered, but firm grainy chalky tannin, balanced acidity, and a fairly good earthy spicy finish. Love that it’s got a savoury edge and a bit of grunt, which is pretty rare at the pointy ‘value’ end of red wine. Bang per buck is off the charts. Rated: 89 Points Tasted: Aug14 Alcohol: 13%. Closure: Screwcap Drink: 2014 - 2017"- Gary Walsh, The Wine Front.

Jeremy Pringle, Wine Will Eat Itself:
It’s imports like these that make life very difficult for Australian producers attempting to sell red wine between the ten and twenty dollar mark. Fourth Wave Wine bring it in... Blood, earth, iron, spice, aniseedy herbs and red berried fruit. Dusty wine. Excellent savoury/sweet interplay. Good intensity and vitality within a light to medium-bodied framework and impressive if bucolic crunchy tannin. Crazy value.

From the Winery:

Tempranillo is Spain’s gift to the wine world, a richly flavoured but elegant wine that is the perfect match to Spanish cuisine. This bright and vibrant style is a fine example of the new fruit-driven style.
Aromas of ripe redcurrants, wild strawberries, dried herbs and savoury spice. The palate is fruit driven with an impressive depth of ripe dark berry and varietal cherry cola fruit flavours framed by savoury spice and soft tannins. An impressively complete and versatile wine suitable for immediate appreciation.
