Need something a little different? Something a little exotic and special? Don't miss out on this powerful and intoxicating Champagne.
The source of several crus from the Côte des Bar, Côte des Blancs and Vitry allows the winemaker to create a Champagne with delicacy and complexity. Gold yellow colour with floral perfumes and hints of stone fruits such as peach and apricot. The palate is fine, intense and complex with a touch of yellow plum on the finish.
About the Producer
Established in 1846, the Devaux label is now produced by the quality-conscious Union Aubois, one of the most dynamic co-operatives in France. Built around pinot noir (70 per cent) from the Cotes des Bar and chardonnay from the Cotes des Blancs, look forward to a nose full of pretty pinot fruit, fresh-baked bread and spice. The palate has terrific drive and intensity bound together by a rush of little bubbles. Oak maturation for a portion of the reserve wines and three years on lees prior to disgorgement has further fleshed out what is a sleek and stylish frame.
Devaux Champagnes are renowned for the quality of Pinot Noir grapes in the blend - grapes grown in the heart of the Cote de Bar. The power and body given to the wine by the Pinot Noir is married with the elegance and finesse that is derived from Chardonnay grown by many of the 800+ vine growers that form the Union Auboise co-operative.
Founded in 1846 by the Devaux brothers, Jules and Auguste, Champagne Veuve A. Devaux was among the first "grandes marques" which helped to spread the reputation of Champagne far and wide. The company was run for several decades by Madame Veuve A. Devaux. In 1986 the fifth generation of her descendants decided to entrust the future of this prestigious brand to one of the largest groups of champagne growers in Domaine de Villeneuve at Bar sur Seine.
Reviews
90 Points - Gary Walsh, Wine Front "Rich and quite big on the autolysis with yeast and brioche over apple and red fruits. Touch of smokiness. On the palate fairly weighty with richer flavours of sweetish red fruits, dried apple and brioche. Balanced acidity and quite a vigorous fizzy mouthfeel. Dry spiced apple and yeasty aftertaste. Not exactly subtle but still pleasant and very flavoursome – although I do prefer a finer, drier style myself."
