Jansz is one of the best producers of sparkling wines outside of Champagne itself. Trying to nail the rosé style is always going to be a challenge – even the big boys in Champs struggle, save for a few true experts (see below). So when this firm, fresh, yet ever so elegant pink elixir hit our glasses we did a treble-take and proceeded not to spit it out (unlike several thousand other samples!). Go Tassie! What a superb wine – it even has space for some cracking sweet spice notes and an uncommon length to add to its alluring red flavours.
Plenty of ripe, red, pinot noir fruit aromas here. This has an alluringly sweet red perfume and gently savoury complexity working away below. The palate delivers crunchy red cherry pinot noir flavour and builds nice, fleshy, creamy weight towards the finish, and savoury notes to close.
94 Points - Tyson Stelzer "We don’t drink nearly as much sparkling rosé in Australia than our friends in the US and UK. They’re on to something, and we’re missing out, perhaps because rosé champagne is typically (and unfairly) 30% more expensive than its white counterpart. You won’t find a finer sparkling rosé anywhere without spending two or three times this figure. For your dollars, you’re getting a lot: three-quarters pinot noir from some of Jansz’s most expressive parcels on the banks of the Tamar, aged on lees for three years (one more than the white) to build more creaminess. The result is a pretty and elegant rosé of very pale salmon hue and strawberry and cream character, with lemon zest freshness and a soft, creamy mouth feel."
95 Points - Huon Hooke & Ralph Kyte-Powell "A delicious glass of Tassie fizz awaits those who open this smartly labelled bottle. It's coppery pink in colour with a lively bubble, and the nose shows a strawberries and cream sort of aroma that reflects the use of high-quality cool-grown pinot noir. There's also some richness from bottle fermentation and lees ageing which imparts a light Vegemitey touch. It tastes smooth with good depth, signing off with a clean, fresh aftertaste. Try it with sugar-cured salmon."
94 Points - James Halliday "A different flavour profile to the standard, with pinot noir contribution quite evident; flowery, strawberry blossom aromas; bready, toasty notes and a long, dry finish."
From the Winery
Specially selected and crafted individual batches form the basis of this Rosé. The fruit used in this wine is selected from cool climate vineyards across Tasmania dedicated to growing sparkling wine fruit.
The Jansz Tasmania Premium Rosé is based upon Jansz wines from several vintages. As with our Premium Cuvée, batches are kept separate during winemaking to maximize blending options and final wine complexity. Secondary fermentation takes place in the bottle and is aged on yeast lees until the perfect balance of strawberries and cream is reached, which usually takes up to three years.
