Muscat is like buried treasure, it’s been waiting for a long time for someone to find it, and more often than not, it’s a rare treat. This Grand Muscat, from one of the worlds premier makers of the style falls squarely into the “Treasure” category. Like most desert or fortified wines this is a thick, sweet wine yet an undercurrent of acidity stops it short of being cloying, instead allowing citrus notes to shine through and give it an added dimension. The nose is raisins, burnt toffee and malt, with a slightly floral rosewater and nuttiness balancing out these elements.
Awards and Accolades
99 Points - Robert Parker, Wine Advocate "The Grand Muscat reveals orange marmalade notes. It is an incredibly unctuous, sweet, thick wine, but, like its siblings, it is neither heavy nor cloying because of good underlying acidity. This singular treasure from Australia should not be missed!"
97 Points - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion "The olive rim to a walnut-brown heart of the colour sets the scene; the heady essence of raisin bouquet pushes any discussions of the fortifying spirit to the back row; in its place there is an Arabian bazaar of spices, with a nod to Turkish baklava, then a rolling wave of Christmas pudding with a garnish of dark chocolate and caramelised roast nuts. The ultimate magic of the Chambers wines lies in the freshness of the finish. 375ml.'
Ralph Kyte-Powell, The Age Epicure: "…few are better than this superb wine. It’s super-concentrated with lush raisin, malt-toffee, rosewater and nutty aromas leading to a sweet, lusciously complex palate that lingers for an age."
